AN EXTRAORDINARY COLLECTION OF RARE VINTAGE CHAMPAGNE The following twenty-two lots offer something rare and glorious for the discerning champagne connoisseur. We are proud to present a collection of champagne that has breadth as well as depth and which represents a real treat for those collectors who look toward Reims for their finest pleasures. The vendor's taste was first and foremost for Krug: the most elegant, long-lived and vinous of all the great vintage champagnes. These are powerful, muscular wines that have the capacity to evolve slowly and gracefully, moving through several life cycles. Over two decades the vendor pieced together a small, but perfectly assembled collection which will allow Krug-lovers to see the enduring appeal of these wines. The section starts with rare older bottles - wines that are not often seen at auction. There is a bottle of the famous 1947 vintage and a three-bottle lot of mature Krug Collection from 1961, 1973 and 1979 - bottles that will make for an extraordinary vertical tasting. Perhaps the rarest aspect of the collection is the wealth of vintages of Krug's single-vineyard Blanc de Blancs champagne, Krug Clos du Mesnil. This wine is made in tiny quantities and is thought by many to be the ultimate expression of taut, linear, pure Chardonnay champagne. We begin with the superb and extremely rare first vintage, 1979, and move through a range of excellent vintages - 1980, 1981, 1985, 1988, 1990 the list goes on For those who prefer Krug's multi-varietal wines, we have the classic vintage champagne from the rich and opulent 1990 vintage, the elegant and refined 1988 and the peerless 1996. The collection also includes some extraordinary champagne from other, equally lauded champagne houses. There's a cache of mature Salon le Mesnil, starting with a magnum of 1976, and wines from 1982 and 1990 - an opportunity not to be missed for fans of this famous Blanc de Blancs. Add to this vintages of Bollinger Vieilles Vignes Françaises, Dom Pérignon and Cristal and you'll find a collection that is truly unique. Lying in Weybridge, Surrey (EHD) The following lots 337 to 358 are packed in Christie's cartons, unless otherwise stated Krug--Vintage 1947 Bin-soiled and slightly damaged label and foil.
