Turkestan. 1-ya seriya risunkov Pavla Kuznetsova so vstupitelnoi statei khudozhnika [Turkestan. Pavel Kuznetsov's First Series of Drawings with the Artist's Introductory Essay].
Moscow and Petrograd: GIZ, 1923. 32 pp., 4to (228 x 173 mm). Bound suite of 14 autolithographs with an introduction on Turkestan. Original lithographed wrappers. Condition : wrappers lightly tanned, rubbed at fold; detached but present. Kuznetsov was initially associated with Mir Isskustva [World of Art] group and the Symbolists. His early work was typical of the Blue Rose group. This collection reproduces drawings Kuznetsov made when he visited Samarkand in 1909. The artist describes in his introduction the impact the culture and the spectacular architecture in particular had on his subsequent work. He was in charge of the painting section of Narkompros until 1921 and eventually fell from grace with the advent of Socialist Realism. One of 2000 copies.
