Inc. frame151 x 109cm (59 1/2 x 43in.) John Swannell is one of the most important names in British photography. Over the last four decades he has created iconic images of fashion models, celebrities, actors, musicians, politicians and royalty. Over the next ten years his work appeared regularly in publications such as Vogue, Tatler, Harpers & Queen and The Sunday Times. His distinctive style coupled with unrelenting hard work garnered him international recognition and further success followed in the form of a one-man show at the Royal Academy in Edinburgh in 1989 and, in 1990, with an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh and a retrospective of his fashion work at the Royal Photographic Society. In 1993, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society, at the time, one of the youngest members to have received this accolade. Swannell has since gone on to have numerous further exhibitions as well as publishing a number of books. His work is held in the permanent collections of some of the most important galleries in the work including The National Portrait Gallery, London, The National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh and The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
