LA PEYRERE, Isaac de (1594-1676). Relation du Groenland . Paris: Augustin Courbe, 1647. [ Bound with :] Relation de l'Islande . Paris: Thomas Jolly, 1663. Granville Sharp’s copy of two first editions, including a rare work on Iceland with a map of Iceland by Pierre Duval. In the preceding work La Peyrère describes Greenland and Denmark, Norse activity in America, Atlantic whaling, and Jens Munk’s 1619 attempt to find a passage to India. Chavanne 5229; Sabin 38970, 38975 (citing the 1715 edition). Two volumes bound together, 12mo (162 x 112mm). 2 folding maps, 1 folding plate bound in upside down (a little soiling at ends, a pale dampstain in middle). Contemporary calf (upper joint repaired, endpapers mostly lacking). Provenance : Granville Sharp, 1735-1813, author and abolitionist (ownership signature to inside cover) – Rulon-Miller Rare Books.
