In taubenblauem Zwirn gewandeter Rokoko-Edelmann, seine Gedanken in Lektüre vertieft.
Öl auf Leinwand, doubliert. U.l. sign., «Octubre (18)76» dat. und bez. «J Ortiz».
H. 33, B. 28 cm (Bildträger). Gerahmt.
Möglicherweise handelt es sich bei der Bezeichnung «J Ortiz» um den Namen eines Schauspielers, der auf diesem Werk von dem spanischstämmigen, in den 1850er Jahren nach Kuba ausgewanderten Maler Víctor Patricio de Landaluze festgehalten wurde. Man könnte vermuten, dass der dargestellte Mime, obgleich er hinsichtlich seines Kostüms bereits voll und ganz in seiner Rolle aufgeht, vor seinem Auftritt in lässiger Haltung auf einem barocken Armlehnstuhl Platz genommen hat, um seinen Part zu studieren.

Guter Gesamteindruck. Schwache Frühschwundrisse, Bildkanten rahmungsbedingt leicht ber., Keilrahmen nach recto min. durchdrückend, vereinzelt punktuelle fachmännische Retuschen.

Oil on canvas, relined. Signed lower left, dated «Octubre (18)76» and inscribed «J Ortiz».

It can be assumed that the name «J Ortiz» is the name of an actor who was captured in this work by the Spanish-born painter Víctor Patricio de Landaluze who emigrated to Cuba in the 1850s. One might imagine that the portrayed performer, although already fully absorbed in his role in terms of his costume, has taken a seat on a baroque armchair in a casual posture before his performance in order to study his part.

Condition report:
Good overall impression. Faint white shrinking cracks, edges slightly rubbed from framing, stretcher minimally pushing through to recto, isolated skilfully retouched spots.
