Small 8° (148 x 91mm.) 12 engraved frontispiece portraits, 12 engraved titles, 59 plates, all but one hand-coloured and 12 (of 14) double-page views. (Lacking 2 double-page views, one in 1816, the other in 1817/18, plates lightly browned in 1817/18, 1820/21 and 1822, text with some light browning in 1817/18, a few occasional spots throughout.) Original printed green card covers (rubbed along spines, a few marks), all but one volume in individual slipcases, housed in a cloth box with individual calf spines (a little rubbed). Provenance: C.F.G.R. Schwerdt (purchased from him in 1946). AN ATTRACTIVE SET OF FIRST EDITIONS IN THE ORIGINAL WRAPPERS , apart from the 1814 second edition with frontispiece portrait differing in size. An attractive set in the original printed wrappers. According to Lindner Sylvan is one of the most beautiful and informative books on hunting ever to be published in Germany and Schwerdt describes it as ‘a most attractive set of sporting almanachs’. The 16 years form the complete run of this annual. In 1831 Laurop and von der Borch published a continuation of the above work, entitled Taschenbuch zur Belehrung und Unterhaltung für Wald- und Jagdfreunde, but it turned out not to be successful and only one volume was published.
