Beschreibung:

Le café 1961 Oil on canvas. 18.11 x 25.59 in. Signed and dated upper center recto, bearing on the reverse stamp Maurice Granier, title and archive number HA 1336 inscribed on the frame. Artwork registered by Galerie Maurice Granier, Paris. Buffet's artistic production refers to German Expressionism, and is realized with a more figurative and essential treatment of the pictorial matter characterized by the streamlining of the figures, which are often dashed with sharp and very defined outlines and made even more intense by the choice of a suffocated palette. The themes dear to the artist were the most disparate, and so they will remain throughout his career, from portraits, to still lifes, from city views to rural passages, his canvases embody the communicative difficulty of the human being, a constant source of anguish for the artist who, precisely because of an illness, will commit suicide in 1999, unable to paint and to communicate with the outside world. Provenienza/Provenance Galerie Maurice Garnier Paris. Collezione privata, Trieste.
