Leaf from a Lectionary, in Latin, decorated manuscript on parchment [probably Rhineland, c. 1200] Single leaf, with single column of 23 lines in a skilled professional early gothic hand, without biting curves but with a pronounced ct-ligature (a feature that clung on in Germanic scriptoria throughout the twelfth century), a capital L lifted far above the baseline with its horizontal stroke curling down to meet the line below (another commonly Germanic feature), and with tall and thin capitals, rubrics in red, simple red initials (4 large, one of these with penwork twirls at its foot), later medieval Roman numerals added to readings, some cockling and discolouration, tears to edges, else in fair and presentable condition, 270 by 202mm.
