LEONARD JENKINS Untitled (Dancer on Abstract Background) . Mixed media on thick cardstock, circa 2000. 815x545 mm; 32x21 1/2 inches. Signed in ink, verso. Provenance: the artist; private New Jersey collection. New York City artist and illustrator Leonard Jenkins received his BFA from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. He has illustrated numerous recent children's books, many on African-American subjects, including Langston's Train Ride by Robert Burleigh, Sweet Land of Liberty by Deborah Hopkinson, Sunflower Island by Carol Greene, I've Seen the Promised Land: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X, A Fire Burning Brightly by Walter Dean Myers. He teaches painting at the School of Visual Arts, New York.
