Title: Letter to Edward Everett from U. S. Representative George A. Simmons Author: Place: Keeseville, New York Publisher: Date: 11 Feb. 1845 Description: Two handwritten leaves, in black ink. Folded to also serve as an envelope. With red seal. 25.4x20.2 (10x8"). Letter from George A. Simmons to Edward Everett concerning a land claim. The 5000 acres of land in the state of New York was granted in: "June 1769 to "Francis Legge late a Captain in his Majesties 46th Regiment" which has been a point of dispute since the Revolution." Simmons asks Everett for any information about Legge, that might be able to solve the dispute. Edward Everett an American politician, pastor, educator, diplomat, and orator He served as U.S Representative, U. S. Senator, the 15th Governor of Massachusetts, United States Secretary of State and at the time of the letter, as Minister to Great Britain. Lot Amendments Condition: Leaves ripping at folds, gathered with small piece of tape, lightly soiled and browned; very good. Item number: 247217
