Collection of 4 autograph letters (in German, totally 12 pages) signed and 2 autograph postcards (in German) signed to the German bussinesman and art collector Richard Mengelberg between about 1894-1926. 2 letters dated Kristiania (Oslo, undated and 10th June 1897), 2 dated Paris 10 January and 17 March 1897. The postcards dated Kristiania (Oslo) 29 July 1894 and undated but poststamped Oslo 24 May 1926. Some minor wearing to the letters after being folded. And with the visiting card of Mengelberg written in pencil verso "Edvard Munch Kragerö in Norwegen". 7 items. Letter 1 (undated) deals with some family matters and that they miss him. Munch also says that he is sad that he was unable to paint the imaginings of Mengelbergs fevered brain in Stockholm. Letter 2 (10/6-97). Wants to congratulate on the birthday, but when he left Hamburg he was without money, even to a postcard. Has sent a lithograph y, mentions that Hamsun and Ibsen just passed before his window, and say he wants to travel to Paris in the spring. Letter 3 (10/1-97). Mentions the artist (Paul) Durand-Ruel and that all he exhibits is not symbolic. He also wants to publish a lithograph album, given he finds more subscribers. Letter 4 (17/3-97). Some chat on the spring, mentions an exhibition in Dresden. The postcards - complaints that Mengelberg is bad on writing back. Richard Mengelberg (1853-1932), German bussinessman and art collector. He wrote, in 1894, an article on Munchs opus for the Frankfurter Zeitung. He was father of Nora Mengelberg, who's portrait Munch painted in 1894. He also made an etching of Richard Mengelberg the same year, his first opus as an graphic artist.
