LI DONGYANG (1457-1516), WANG AO (1450-1524), ZHANG CHUNXIU (17th century) and Others Yu Yan Pavilion Handscroll, ink on paper, 9¾ X 47¾in. (25 X 122cm.) Inscribed: (When) Mr. Bao An (Wu Kwan, 1435-1504) rebuilt the Yu Yan Pavilion at Happy Grove during the Chenghua era (1465-1487), Mr. Qinan (Shen Zhou, 1427-1509) painted his portrait and a number of contemporary scholars composed poems for him. One day a friend bought this very scroll to me. The calligraphy by the scholars was still intact but the portrait had disappeared. (I) thought about this and followed the style of Zhu Zhuang (Shen Zhou) to paint this. Signed: Jianyang Eight seals of the artist Fifty-one collectors' seals, including five of Zhu Zhichi (17th century) Three frontispieces by Li Dongyang, Zhao Kuan (1457-1505), and Mao Cheng (1461-1523) Twelve colophons, one each by Lu Rong (1436-1497), Hu Chao (1425-1488), Han Wen (1441-1526), Li Dongyang, Li Jie (1443-1517), Wang Ao, Chen Ju (1440-1506), Zhou Geng (1443-1489), Zhao Kuan, Shi Wenxian, Jiang Lan (all 15th century), and Weng Fanggang (1733-1887)
