Evans MBE' Lloyd's War Medal for Bravery at Sea. silver (Second Officer D.M.L. Evans, S.S. "Earlston", 5th July 1942), in case of issue, extremely fine (Qty: 7) Provenance: Jim Bullock (1930-2019), Romsey. Lloyd's Medal, London Gazette, 6 October 1942 David Meredith Lyon Evans was born 6 February 1917 'On 5 July 1942 Steam Merchant Earlston was damaged by bombs from German Ju88 aircraft of III./KG 30 at Banak, Norway. Later that day at 17.47 the German U Boat U-334 sank Earlston northeast of North Cape. The master and three gunners were taken, prisoner. The Second Officer and 20 survivors landed on the Rabachi Peninsula after seven days. The chief officer and 26 survivors landed on Norwegian-occupied territory.'
