Lloyd's Medal for Bravery. A group of seven to Second Officer D.M.L. Evans, Merchant Navy The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Civil) Member’s 2nd type breast badge, silver, in Royal Mint case of issue 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, Africa Star, Atlantic Star, War Medal in named card box of issue addressed to 'Mr D.M.L. Evans MBE' Lloyd's War Medal for Bravery at Sea. silver (Second Officer D.M.L. Evans, S.S. "Earlston", 5th July 1942), in case of issue, extremely fine (Qty: 7) Provenance: Jim Bullock (1930-2019), Romsey. Lloyd's Medal, London Gazette, 6 October 1942 David Meredith Lyon Evans was born 6 February 1917 'On 5 July 1942 Steam Merchant Earlston was damaged by bombs from German Ju88 aircraft of III./KG 30 at Banak, Norway. Later that day at 17.47 the German U Boat U-334 sank Earlston northeast of North Cape. The master and three gunners were taken, prisoner. The Second Officer and 20 survivors landed on the Rabachi Peninsula after seven days. The chief officer and 26 survivors landed on Norwegian-occupied territory.'
