Lochmaier's Sermons Johann Petri, 1490-1 LOCHMAIER, Michael (d. 1499). Sermones de sanctis cum vigintitribus Pauli Wann sermonibus. [Passau: Johann Petri, 1490-91.] First edition of Lochmaier’s first printed work, in a contemporary binding. Michael Lochmaier, a professor of canon law and theology, was one of the most prominent members of the University of Vienna and a canon of the cathedral of Passau. Johann Petri was the second printer at Passau, after Benedictus Mayr, and between 1485 and 1493 produced about thirty books there. This edition also includes 23 sermons by fellow Passau canon Paulus Wann. HC 10172*; BMC II 617; BSB-Ink L-216; Bod-inc L-138; Goff L-270; ISTC il00270000. Chancery folio (278 x 189mm). 402 leaves. (Some dampstaining and scattered wormholes, a few spots of soiling, hole in final blank, some toning.) Contemporary blindstamped calf over wooden boards, brass clasps and catchplates, paper labels on spine (bottom panel of spine restored, some wear to boards and joints). Provenance: occasional marginal notes and marks – acquired from Lathrop C. Harper, Inc, New York, 18 March 1957.
