Long Service Medals from the Collection formed by John Tamplin A Second World War M.B.E. group of five awarded to Lieutenant Michael Edward English, Indian Army Corps of Clerks, late Royal Garrison Artillery The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, M.B.E. (Military) Member’s 2nd type breast badge, silver; India General Service 1908-352 clasps, North West Frontier 1930-31, Mohmand 1933 (10583353 P-A-Sjt., I.C.C.); War and India Service Medals; Army L.S. & G.C., G.VI.R., India (S-Sgt., I.A.C.C.) mounted court style for wear, good very fine and better (5) £300-400 Footnote M.B.E. London Gazette 1 January 1945. (Sub Conductor (acting Conductor), Royal Artillery, seconded to Indian Army Corps of Clerks’. Michael Edward English enlisted into the Royal Garrison Artillery on 14 August 1924, aged 26 years, 6 months. Later transferring to the Indian Army Corps of Clerks, he was a Paid Acting Sergeant at the time of the North West Frontier Expedition of 1930-31. Serving on into the Second World War, he was awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. Medal in November 1944, at which time he was ranked a Staff Sergeant in the I.A.C.C. For his services in the war he was awarded the M.B.E. in the New Year Honours List of 1945. Staff Sergeant (Acting Conductor) English was granted an Emergency Commission as a Lieutenant (Assistant Commissary) in the I.A.C.C. on 2 July 1945. He is last mentioned in the Indian Army List of April 1948 as a War Substantive Lieutenant and Temporary Captain. Returning to England, English died in Preston, Lancashire on 28 July 1976. Sold with riband bar, copied service papers, gazette and newspaper extracts and other research.
