Long Service Medals from the Collection formed by John Tamplin Four: 1st Class Master Gunner William Bean, Royal Artillery Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (Serjt. Wm. Bean, Rl. Arty.) contemporary engraved naming; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (905 Serjt. Willm. Bean, Coast Brigde R.A.); Meritorious Service Medal, E.VII.R. (1st C. Mr. Gnr. W. Bean, R.A.); Turkish Crimea, Sardinian issue, mounted for display, toned, very fine and better (4) £350-400 Footnote William Bean was born at Greenwich, Kent, in about 1829. He attested for the Royal Artillery at Woolwich on 12 February 1847, aged 18, and served a total of 37 years 8 days. He saw brief service in the Crimea from December 1854 to April 1855, but saw no further active service. He transferred to the Coast Brigade in February 1865, and was promoted 1st Class Master Gunner in October 1866. He received his L.S. & G.C. medal with a £15 Gratuity in October 1866, and was recommended for the M.S.M. and Annuity in April 1870 which he finally received over 30 years later. He was promoted Warrant Officer (1st Class Master Gunner) in the Coast Brigade in July 1881 and was discharged to pension on 19 February 1884. Master Gunner Bean was awarded the M.S.M. on 4 May 1902, and this award was published in Army Order 10 of 1 January 1903. Sold with full research.
