Morrison, R.A.) mounted court style, good very fine (4) £200-250 Footnote Archibald Morrison was born on 2 April 1859 and joined the Army on 2 July 1877. He served in the Royal Artillery and was in India from 15 March 1880 until December 1885. During this period he took part in the campaign in Afghanistan, serving in “E” Battery, “B” Brigade, Royal Horse Artillery, although he was not present in the disaster at Maiwand. In 1894 he became a 3rd Class Master Gunner and received his L.S. & G.C. medal without Gratuity two years later. He was promoted Master Gunner 2nd Class in October 1897 and was granted a commission as a Lieutenant (District Officer) on 16 February 1901. He spent the rest of his military career in Kent and was Adjutant (temporary Captain) of the 1st Cinque Ports R.G.A. Volunteers, which became the 3rd Home Counties (Cinque Ports) Brigade, R.F.A. (T.F.) upon the formation of the Territorial Force in 1908. Morrison remained as Adjutant until restored to the establishment of the R.A. in May 1911. He retired in July 1911 and joined the T.F. the following year as a Captain in the Kent R.G.A. (T.F.), serving with No. 3 Company at Dover. He served there throughout the Great War, being promoted to Major in June 1916, and retired having attained the age limit on 19 February 1920. Major Morrison died at Folkestone on 14 March 1934, aged 75.
