Lot of 5, including one quarter plate and four sixth plate postmortem daguerreotypes of children. Images feature male and female subjects in reclining positions, most of them holding or surrounded by small bouquets of flowers, some of which are tinted. Of particular note is a strangely arranged sixth plate image of a young girl in a dark dress, appearing to hold something in one hand, with mat stamped for N. Pratt, Essex, CT. Pencil inscriptions behind image include names "Louise," "Charity," and "Fred," with ages and/or dates written next to them, with "Taken the 15th of / March 1855" written below, and "Sarah" scrawled at bottom right. Housed in a half pressed paper case. Another sixth plate image features a young girl in a white dress with a tinted bouquet in one hand, and mat stamped "McElroy." Housed in a half pressed paper case. Provenance:Charles A. and Frances Swedlund Collection of Early Photography Condition: Images are in good condition overall, with some tarnishing present at edges. Some wear to edges and corners of cases. Some tarnishing to mats. All housed in half cases except for one sixth plate image housed under mat, glass, and preserver only.
