Property from a private collection, UK.
Acquired in India in the 1990s.
M. Sivanesan was born in Madras (now Chennai) and studied Fine Arts at the Madras Government College of Arts & Crafts, Chennai. He was fascinated with human subjects and therefore most of his works feature humans alongside figurative compositions. In Untitled (Village Scene with two women) Sivanesan has captured the essence of everyday life in Indian villages and skilfully brought to life the rustic charm and earthy hues of the countryside.
The composition centres around two women, the focal point of the scene, who are going about their chores amidst a lush and idyllic village setting. The women are adorned in traditional attire and jewellery and a village hut can be seen in the distance. The foliage is lush and Sivanesan's success lays in being able to infuse the canvas with a sense of movement and atmosphere, whilst elevating the vitality and resilience of rural life.
