MAIDMENT, James (1795-1879) -- Catalogue of the Extensive, Curious, and Valuable Library of the late James Maidment, Esq.... Edinburgh: Colston & Sons for T. Chapman & Son, 27 April [1880]. 8 o (250 x 159 mm). Contemporary Roxburghe binding (a little wear, hinges reinforced). Sale catalogue of the enthusiastic Scottish antiquary, friend of Sir Walter Scott author or editor of numerous publications, of which DNB lists about twenty. The sale occurred on fifteen "lawful days" and included many works of Scottish history and genealogy; the most important item in the sale was lot 3,725, simply described as "Scottish Topographical Collections" which in fact consisted of 100 volumes of papers, archives, tracts, and pamphlets arranged according to county (£210.0.). PRICED in a contemporary hand, ruled in red. Not in Blogie.
