Malvasia (Carlo Cesare) Felsina pittrice vite de pittori bolognesi, 2 vol., FIRST EDITION, vol. 1 half title, vol. 2 errata, 43 woodcut medallion portraits within leafy wreaths, a few left blank, several full-page illustrations including details of the Caracci's paintings, their family tree and the tomb of Elisabetta Sirani large emblematical representation of the city of Bologna, vol. 1 lacking final blank, titles and other few leaves repaired and reinforced, occasional spotting or foxing, some dust soiling, little water staining to vol. 2, limp vellum, remains of ties, new endpapers, soiled, [Brunet III, 1349; Cicognara 2310; S. Piantanida, 'Autori italiani del '600', n. 4381], 4to, Heir of Domenico Barbieri, Bologna, 1678. *** Most important work on Bolognese painters, from the 12th century to the death of Elisabetta Sirani in 1665, dedicated to Louis XIIII of France. Contains the first biographies of the Carracci and Guido Reni A third volume edited by Luigi Crespi was published in 1769.
