Title: Maps and Illustrations of the Missions of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. September, 1845 Author: American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions Place: [Boston] Publisher: Date: 1845 Description: 31, [1 blank] pp. Maps & illustrations throughout. (8vo) 21.4x13.5 cm (8½x5½"), removed, remains of stitching spine. Scarce work, disbound from a larger volumes, but apparently first issued separately and then bound. There are 22 maps, some half-page. There are three maps relating to missions in the United States: Ojibwa and Sioux Missions; Indian Missions West of the Mississippi; and Oregon Mission. Four of the maps and three of the views relate to Hawaii, others include Africa, India, Ceylon, Borneo, etc. etc. A few with hand coloring in outline, whether original or not is not determined. Provenance: Maggs, 10/92 References: Fitzpatrick, The Early Mapping of Hawai'i, pp 115-117, re the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions and the maps of Hawai'i (R). Forbes, Hawaii, #1520. Forbes list seven other editions published before and after this one. It was issued as a separate. Lot Amendments Condition: Small stain at bottom of first leaf; very good.
