The sleek “Event Horizon" table is a companion piece to the “Orgone Stretch Lounge” and was produced using the same aluminum forming process. Newson designed the “Event Horizon Table” in Australia, Japan and France during 1991 and 1992. The final model was produced in France. In astronomical terms an event horizon is the edge of a black hole. Past the event horizon no information will ever be able to escape again and will be lost to the black hole for ever. Newson’s fascination with astronomical phenomena is illustrated not only in the “Event Horizon" table but also in the “Orgone” series, his “Black Hole” table of 1988 and the more recent "Kelvin 40" jet prototype for the Fondation Cartier Pour l’Art Contemporain in Paris, all of which prominently feature negative space as a major design element. Australian-born, London-based designer Marc Newson has become one of the most important and recognizable figures in the design industry today. He has developed a signature aesthetic and has applied this look to products including airplanes, furniture, watches and the 021C Ford concept car. Time Magazine named Newson one of the ‘Top 100 Most Influential People of 2005’ and he has undertaken work for Flos, Cappellini, Nike and The Gap. Read More
