The author, a 16th-century doctor from Modena, practised medicine for a long time in Venice where he probably died. A great expert in his own (he wrote a dictionary) and in classical languages, he also wrote a book on the plague, but is best known for his comprehensive work on feminine adornment and cosmetics, Gli ornamenti delle donne . Edit on-line 64508 (one copy so far reported); Durling 2956; not in Adams or Wellcome.
