Historique : Il est permis de penser qu'il s'agirait d'une représentation de Sarah Bernhardt dans le rôle-titre (Mélissinde, princesse d’Orient) de "La Princesse Lointaine" d'Edmond de Rostand qu'elle interprète pour la première fois le 5 avril 1893 au Théâtre de la Renaissance et dans le livret de laquelle l'auteur écrivit : "À Madame Sarah Bernhardt, puis-je ne pas dédier cette pièce ?".

History : we can reasonably think that this sculpture would be a representation of Sarah Bernhardt in the title role (Mélissinde, princesse d'Orient) of "La Princesse Lointaine" ("The Faraway Princess") by Edmond de Rostand which she perform for the first time on April 5, 1893 at the Théâtre de la Renaissance and in the libretto of which the author wrote: "To Madame Sarah Bernhardt, can I not dedicate this play ?".
