Lot details By Masanao, signed Masanao 正直 Japan, Ise-Yamada, mid-19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Finely carved as a large rat (nezumi) with bulging eyes inlaid in dark and lustrous horn, cowering over two peanuts and nibbling at them. Note the minutely incised fur and the large well-carved tail which curls around underneath. Natural himotoshi and signed within a recessed oval reserve MASANAO. LENGTH 5 cm Condition: Excellent condition. Provenance: French private collection.
