Beschreibung:

Maurice O'Connell Inlaid Mahogany Tall Clock, Boston, c. 1810, fret-top case with glazed hood door, brass stop-fluted columns flanking the roman numeral painted iron dial with moon's phase in the arch, floral and bird decorated spandrels, seconds bit, and calendar aperture, marked M. O'Connell, brass-stopped fluted quarter-columns flank the molded-edged, crossbanded, inlaid, full-length waist door, with similar decorated base, all resting on ogee bracket feet, eight-day brass movement with rack, and snail strike, and recoil escapement, powered by two tin-cased weights and regulated by a beveled-edged wood rod and brass-faced pendulum, ht. 82 1/2 in. Note: The "M. O'Connell" signed on the dial of this clock is likely the same O'Connell listed in Spittler & Bailey, Clockmakers and Watchmakers of America, p. 304, despite the late dates of 1841-1869 noted there. Maurice O'Connell could quite possibly be a Willard apprentice or journeyman by 1800, signing clocks taken in payment for work completed.
