Historical Account of the Most Celebrated Voyages, Travels, and Discoveries, from the Time of Columbus to the Present Period. London: for E. Newbury, 1796-1801. 25 volumes (20 volumes + 5 supplements). Illustrated with engraved frontispiece portrait and approximately 66 plates, 2 of which are folding, folding map, folding table. 12mo (140 x 86 mm). Period full brown tree calf, spine gilt with red leather label. Generally internally clean, though some occasional dampstain, ownership signatures to front free endpapers, some wear to spines, shelfwear. First edition of Mavor's collection of travel narratives that includes many Pacific narratives including those of Cook, Portlock and Dixon, Wilson, Ellis, etc. The work is complete in 20 volumes and the series was later recommenced with 6 supplemental volumes, 5 of which are present here. All 6 supplements are rarely found together; this set matches that held at the British Columbia Provincial Archives. Forbes 265; Hill p 493; Sabin 46982. Provenance: Abercromby of Birkenbog (bookplate).
