BRUCH, MAX Autograph draft and sketches signed for the Trauerfeier für Mignon, Op.93 ("Angefangen am 30/3 18 M. B. Beendigt im Sommer 1918") notated in reduced score in black ink on systems of varying size, the draft extending from the beginning to bar 16 after figure "H", the orchestral parts written mostly on two staves, with some indications of scoring added later in pencil, the draft including an original manuscript-paper wrapper with autograph pencil title ("Requiem für Mignon F[riedenau]. Ostern 1918") and a second autograph title-page in ink and pencil ("S.1. Skizze. Requiem für Mignon. Von Goethe. Angefangen am 30/3 18 M. B. Beendigt im Sommer 1918"), with a later manuscript-paper wrapper inscribed by Bruch ("Skizzen zum Requiem für Mignon von Max Bruch Op.93. Berlin-Friedenau, 27. März 1920. Seiner lieben Freundin Melusine Rudorff zur Erinnerung M. B."), with extensive autograph deletions, corrections and revisions, with many additional autograph entries in pencil, some in blue crayon, some deleted autograph pencil sketches contained on the original wrapper 27 paginated and 6 unpaginated pages, plus blanks, folio (35 x 27cm), a number of the leaves, some detached, formed by two or more glued together, 14-, 16-, and 20-stave papers, Friedenau, 1918 A spectacular working manuscript of Bruch's last choral work, the Trauerfeier für Mignon, Op.93. Based on words by Goethe, and scored for soloists, double choir, organ and orchestra, Bruch's work was written in 1918, when the composer was eighty. The covering wrapper, inscribed to Melusine Rudorff (1881–1959), daughter of the pianist, composer and conductor Ernst Rudorff (1840-1916), dates from even later, the year of the composer's death (1920).
