Mesohippus bardi Oligocene White River Badlands, Wyoming Stikingly small in comparison to modern horses, Mesohippus bardi grew to an adult size of approximately two feet. Mesohippus, an early member of the perissodactyls, (odd-toed) equid family, possessed three toes on its feet. The present fossil horse skull exhibits exceptional bone quality and fine teeth.
