MEXICO CITY] GARCÍA CONDE, DIEGO. Plano general de la Ciudad de Mexico ... Engraved by Peter Maverick . New York: 1830. Copper-engraved map of Mexico City on banknote paper, original strong full publisher's color, folded into original bright red leather pocket covers. Neat line to neat line 18 7/8 x 20 7/8 inches (48 x 53 cm). Pocket covers lightly worn, a few neat and unobtrusive repaired separations at folds, the marbled front pastedown with the Ex Libris Mexicanis bookplate of the great ethnographer Frederick Starr and an old private stamp in ink from the studio of a Mexican photographer. This American edition appears somewhat rarer than the original multi-sheet edition engraved by Fabregat in 1807. The augmented and corrected pocket version was prepared by the New York engraver Peter Maverick (1780-1831), the son of the Colonial-era engraver of the same name. Rafael María Calvo, who corrected and augmented the map, was a retired officer of the Regiment of Infantry of the Spanish Royal Engineers. Carrera Stampa 256; Lombardo Atlas histórico de la ciudad de México plate 152; Palau 98697. C Collection from the Estate of Robert Rieber
