MICHAEL CAMAKARIS (born 1976) Untitled 2019 collage, fine liner, greylead pencil, ink and paint pen on paper 38 x 28.5cm OTHER NOTES: Michael Camakaris' works are imbued with drama, depth and intensity, abstracted through the use of bold outlines, compelling contrasts and a tenacious structure and dynamism. With a nod to cubism and surrealism, Carmakaris explores ideas surrounding industrialisation and the environment, offer a brewing sense of foreboding. Collage with Gas Mask features two opposing realities – sunshine and blue sky or darkness and gas masks, the arrow pointing to the latter suggesting impending doom. Camakaris has worked at the Arts Project Australia studio since 2010, and presented his first solo exhibition 'Five Bulls, No Bull' as part of the Shepparton Art Museum Drawing Wall Commission in 2013.
