MILTON, John (1608-1674). Paradise Lost . London: printed by S. Simmons ... to be sold by T. Helder, 1669. 4° (172 x 125mm). Title and text within ruled border. Woodcut headband and initial at the start of each book. (Title with short tears at upper and outer margin and several erased or faint ownership inscriptions, some browning, Z3 and 2D2 with closed tears, about a dozen leaves shaved at lower margin with some loss of rule, I1v with soil mark affecting first three lines, 2F4r with smaller soil mark.) Late 19th-century brown morocco by Rivière, sides with central oval lozenge enclosed by an inner and outer panel of gilt and blind rules, the inner panel with fleurons at corners, gilt spine, marbled endpapers, gilt edges (upper joints a little rubbed, slight scuff marks).
