Mancano i ritratti calcografici di Antonio Genovesi e di Charles Louis de Montesquieu. Legatura in cartonato marmorizzato coevo, con dorsi in pergamena. Fregi, tassello rosso e titolo manoscritto al dorso. Nel primo tomo nella numerazione omesse le pp. 161-164, nel secondo p. XVI erroneamente numerata XV, nel quarto tomo a c. E8r., con proprio occhietto: Difesa dello spirito delle leggi . Marca calcografica con note tipografiche sui frontespizi (la data di stampa presunta, 1777, si ricava dalla prefazione). Ex libris al frontespizio: "Ex libris Julii Caesaris Ferrari". Aloni e fioriture diffuse, qualche brunitura, ma bella copia in barbe ad ampi margini. Prima edizione commentata dal Genovesi del celebre trattato storico giuridico di Montesquieu, la cui prima edizione del 1748 ebbe ventidue ristampe nei due anni successivi. La traduzione è attribuita a Domenico Cavallari, allievo di Giambattista Vico e dello stesso Antonio Genovesi. Una prima versione italiana di G.M. Mecatti uscì nel 1750. La ''Difesa'' appare qui in italiano per la prima volta. Alla fine del quarto tomo vi è un vastissimo Indice delle Materie , per entrambe le opere, che va da p. 149 a p. 366. In the first volume in the numbering are omitted the pages 161-164, in the second volume page XVI wrongly numbered XV, in the fourth volume on fol. E8r, with own half-title: Difesa dello spirito delle leggi. Engraved pinter's device with references note on title pages ( the alleged date of print, 1777, is taken from the preface). Ex libris on title page "Ex libris Julii Caesaris Ferrari". Spots and foxing, some browning, otherwise a fair copy, uncut. First edition annotated by Genovesi of the famous historical and juridic writing of Montesquieu, which first edition of 1748 had 22 reprints in the two following years. The translation is made by Domenico Cavallari, student of Giambattista Vico and of Antonio Genovesi himself. One first italian version by G.M. Mecatti was printed in 1750. The "Difesa" appeared in italian for the first time. At the end of the fourth volume there is a extensive Indice delle Materie, for both work, starting from page 149 to page 366. There is a different issue of this edition that was partly recomposed. The portraits of Antonio Genovesi and Charles Louis de Montesquieu in this different issue are made rispectively by Pignatari and Cimarelli.
