MOTORCARS FROM THE ESTATE OF STEPHEN CONDUR The late Stephen Condur was an avid car enthusiast. As a longtime employee for the Curtis-Wright Corporation, Mr. Condur had an interest in all things mechanical, particularly cars with a sporting flair. He sought out the rare and unusual, acquiring examples whenever possible. It was Mr. Condur's intention to one day restore these fine cars, but unfortunately an intensive work schedule prevented him from doing so. A nearby car enthusiast and collector Victor Carbe discovered these cars a number of years ago. With his help, Mrs. Condur has decided to give other collectors the opportunity to acquire, restore and use these cars once again. FROM THE ESTATE OF STEPHEN CONDUR 1924 LANCIA "LAMBDA" TORPEDO TOURER Chassis No. To be Announced Engine: V-4, overhead cam, 2120cc, 49 bhp at 3,250rpm; Gearbox: three speed manual; Brakes: four wheel drum; Suspension: front independent by enclosed vertical coilsprings on sliding pillars and hydraulic dampers, rear, semi-elyptic. Right hand drive. When announced in 1922, the Lancia Lambda was without doubt the most advanced motot car design of its day, incorporating design features which are still modern. Including a rigid monocoque hull structure instead of a conventional flexible chassis frame, independent front suspension and a compact narrow Vee engine with aluminum cylinder block and single overhead camshaft. The excellent ride, handling characteristics and performance, together with very high manufacturing quality, ensured the success of the Lambda during its nine year production run. The Lambda's merits, including its light and positive controls, made it a popular choice of discerning motorists in Australia, where many of the survivors are still in regular enthusiastic use. Mr. Condur purchased this Lambda sometime prior to 1947. As far as we know it has not been run during his ownership. It is fitted with disc wheels, a dual windshield, and all of the instruments appear original and correct.
