A handsome vest-form pen depicting a baleful-looking dragon rising from a nimbus of clouds, rendered in takamaki-e and raised hiramaki-e with exquisite raden highlights. The cap features Mount Fuji rampant over a cloud bank. "Lifebuoy" style lever, endpiece marked "Made in / Japan". 14K gold #3 Pilot heart-vent nib, medium flex. 131mm. Signature is rubbed but appears to be that of Kasui or Seishou. -Hutt, Julia & Stephen Overbury. Namiki: The Art of Japanese Lacquer Pens. [Toronto: 2000].
