Engraved frontispiece, vignette on title, engraved head-piece and 15 plates (14 double-page, two folding) by ANGELO GUIDUCCI, GIUSEPPE VASI FELICE POLANZANI and NICOLAS JARDIN after VINCENZO DAL RÈ (folding plate with small adhesion on upper portion of image, three with short repaired marginal tears, last with some offsetting and a marginal wormtrack). 19th-century marbled boards, spine and corners replaced. CHARLES VII, King of Naples and Sicily, spared no expense in the celebration of the the birth of his son, CHARLES IV, later King of Spain. Vincenzo dal Rè was the stage-designer, decorator and master of ceremonies to the Neopolitan court and designed special balls, dinners and musical entertainments at the Royal Palace. An opera was staged in the Theater of San Carlo, which was then converted for further festivities (5 plates). Outside, the Castello Nuovo was illuminated and a special firework-machine was constructed (4 plates). Finally, a Cuccagna or fantastic garden (one plate) was laid out for the populace, with a pavilion spouting wine, its walls and the garden itself covered with every kind of food, and two poles with mens' and womens' clothes suspended from the tops.
