[8], [xxxiv], 740; xii, 120, cxliv, cii, [1] errata pp. First volume illustrated with 16 steel-engraved plates including frontispiece; 6 hand colored lithographed plates; 3 color mezzotints; 5 (of 6) maps, including the large folding chart of the Arctic regions with outline hand-coloring; Appendix volume illustrated with 20 lithographed plates, 12 with original hand coloring. 11¾x9¼. Modern period-style half calf and marbled boards, morocco lettering pieces, spines gilt with nautical ornaments between decorative rules. First Edition. Account of an important Arctic expedition. Ross' first voyage in quest of the northwest passage was shadowed by controversy regarding some of his claims.
