Beschreibung:

Nathaniel Bedford Forrest albumen photo clothing button .75 in. on the reverse are HB 30 Nathaniel Bedford Forrest is quite possibly one of the most controversial characters in the Civil War. Despite his lack of military education, he was one of the few officers in either army to enlist as a private and be promoted to general officer and corps commander during the war. Yet Confederate President Jefferson Davis and General Robert E. Lee both expressed that the Confederate high command failed to fully use Forrest's talents. The scourge of the Union, he was a brilliant tactician and played pivotal roles at Fort Donelson, Shiloh, the capture of Murfreesboro, the Franklin-Nashville campaign, and many others. At Fort Pillow, he allowed his men to conduct a massacre of black soldiers and Union supporters, but he was not charged for his crimes. After the war, he is best known for his involvement in the Klu Klux Klan. Provenance: Property of Another Consignor Condition: Very good, some toning of the print and wear on the button.
