NELSON, Horatio. Autograph letter signed ('Nelson & Bronte') to Captain Richard Thomas, Victory, 4 April 1805 , announcing that the French fleet is at sea, 'proceed off Cagliari fire guns and call out the Seahorse and desire Captain Boyce to join me', indicating his own position, and anticipating that the French will not reach Toro, but will go to Galita, one page, 4to , integral blank leaf (traces of guard). Nelson was between Pula Bay and his rendez-vous west of Toulon when the Victory encountered the Phoebe flying the signal that the enemy was out, and he signalled the fleet to prepare for battle, but the English frigate lost sight of the French almost at once, causing him much distress.
