New Zealand 1862-64 Watermark Large Star Imperforate 2d. deep bright blue with good to large margins nearly all round, variety double print with the first impression quite faint though remaining quite apparent to the naked eye; a couple of marks on face and considered to be used. An appealing example of this very rare and seldom offered stamp. Holcombe Certificate (1995) states "the first impression a dry print and shows mainly in the outer frames and lettering and could be considered in the nature of a bounce print. It is however a stamp listed by Stanley Gibbons". S.G. 36a, £4,000. Photo Note: See "Postage Stamps of New Zealand", Vol. I, page 65 provenance: Christie's Robson Lowe auction, April 1995 Joseph Hackmey, February 2009
