Newton (Sir Isaac) Sir Isaac Newton's Chronology, abridged by himself. To which are added, Some observations on the Chronology of Sir Isaac Newton. Done from the French, by a gentleman, title with woodcut ornament, woodcut head- and tail-pieces and decorative initials, final signature lightly browned and with some foxing, elsewhere some occasional spotting, 20th century half calf, gilt spine in compartments and with a red morocco label, Macclesfield copy with a copy of original North Library bookplate to front pastedown (originally part of lot 2259, Sotheby's, 25th October, 2005), small 4to, Printed for J. Peele, at Locke's-Head in Pater-Noster Row, 1728. ⁂ A re-translation into English of Nicolas Freret's 1725 Abregé, with the 'Observations' here also by him. Newton's attempt to employ astronomical principles to verify the chronology of ancient history. A very rare imprint.
