NICHOLAS I, EMPEROR OF RUSSIA AND POLAND Two-panelled document with printed heading and secretarial text signed by Nicolas I , Emperor of Russia from 1825 until 1855. Single sheet, 13 x 9 inches (33 x 23 cm); dated February 29, 1828, at St. Petersburg, the document appoints Mr. Fuhrmann, the Counselor of State and Vice-Director of Foreign Commerce to the office of "Knight of the Order of Saint Stanislas, second class." Two columns, the left French and the right Polish, signed by Nicolas in the left column, with an embossed double-eagle seal attached at left. The document has a vertical and horizontal fold, and has some minor toning. It is framed with a 19th century engraved portrait of Nicolas. Not examined out of frame. Provenance: Gary E.
