Northern European School 18th Century Portrait of a boy seated, holding a pen and book, wearing a blue coat Oil on canvas 126 x 102cm; 49½ x 40in Provenance: Lot 393-404 - The collection of Cooper Penrose Cooper Penrose was a significant Irish merchant of the late 18th Century, building much of his success on the manufacture of Waterford and Cork glass and involvement with family timber and property businesses. He and his wife were somewhat unconventional Quakers but also great lovers and patrons of the arts - filling their home, Woodhill House in Montenotte, Cork with Irish and Continental art.
