Novelli, Francesco Disegni del Mantegna. [Venice, 1795] folio (332 x 237mm.), engraved title-page, 50 engraved plates (plates 1-42 with engraved numerals), later marbled boards with gilt monogram stamped at foot of upper cover, without engraved dedication found in some copies RARE. A fine series of prints engraved by Francesco Novelli; they were originally attributed to Andrea Mantegna on their discovery in the eighteenth century but are now considered to be by the Bolognese artist Marco Zoppo (1432?-1478?). Most copies contain only 44 plates, but the present copy contains all fifty, and these are in the second state, with plate numbers up to no.42. The original drawings are now in the British Museum.
