A large part of the sale was destroyed by fire and sold as salvage to Henry Stevens, one of the main bidders of the first two sessions. The destroyed portion included an important section of illuminated manuscripts and printed Bibles, as well as all of the "Bunyaniana" for which Offor was most famous. His collection of early English Bibles was for a long time the completest known in the country.
