OFFOR, George (1787-1864) -- Catalogue of the Important and Valuable Library of the Late George Offor... comprising Rare Early Versions of the Holy Scriptures, Including the Most Extensive Series of English Bibles, Psalters and Testaments ever Offered for Sale. London: Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge, 27 June 1865. 8 o (215 x 137 mm). Contemporary half-calf (rubbed, spine chipped). Provenance : A.N.L. Munby (bookplate). Partially PRICED. A large part of the sale was destroyed by fire and sold as salvage to Henry Stevens, one of the main bidders of the first two sessions. The destroyed portion included an important section of illuminated manuscripts and printed Bibles, as well as all of the "Bunyaniana" for which Offor was most famous. His collection of early English Bibles was for a long time the completest known in the country.
