Edmund Darch Lewis (American, 1835-1910) was born in Philadelphia and studied with landscape artist Paul Weber He was a contemporary of Frederic Edwin Church and Albert Bierstadt whose influence is seen in his romantic landscapes. A prolific painter well known for his marine scenes, Lewis primarily painted the Philadelphia, New York, and New England areas, especially the Delaware Water Gap region in Western New Jersey. Condition: One small area of inpainting on the extreme lower right corner in the water, not affecting the painting.
