K. Sherwin / 1780 The present work is possibly one of the very few drawings by John Kayse Sherwin, engraver to King George III. His drawing technique however is recorded as 'in black and red chalk, and a mixture of colour with crayon, similar to those of Bartolozzi' when his drawing entitled The joys of life was exhibited at the Royal Academy (see Neil Jeffares, The Dictionary of pastellists before 1800, entry Sherwin).
