After outperforming two other watches under rigorous testing and extreme, harsh conditions, NASA certified the Omega Speedmaster Professional to accompany the Apollo 11 astronauts, becoming the first watch to be worn on the moon. The present ultra, rare Omega Speedmaster Professional watch was made in 1994 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Apollo XI landing in 1969. The current example is numbered 1 of 5 pieces and is accompanied by Omega's Extract from the Archives confirming production in 1994. The platinum and baguette-diamond set case houses Omega calibre 867, the skeletonized version of calibre 861. Legendary watchmaker, Armin Strom designed and hand-skeletonised the entire movement. Celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the first Moon landing in 2019, the unearthing of such a rare example is most fitting for this special anniversary year of Omega and sought-after by collectors.
