OREGON STAGE COMPANY. Group of 10 partly printed and autograph documents relating to the operation of the company, 1862-1867. Together 10 pages, oblongs and 4to, all framed together (frame measuring 33½ x 41½in.) .
OREGON STAGE COMPANY. Group of 10 partly printed and autograph documents relating to the operation of the company, 1862-1867. Together 10 pages, oblongs and 4to, all framed together (frame measuring 33½ x 41½in.) . AMERICA HEADS NORTHWEST in this interesting array of documents showing the expansion of travel and communication between California and Oregon. Seven of the documents are receipts addressed to employees for payment as drivers, hostlers or road agents, with many signed by company persident, H.W. Corbett. A way-bill of 1 August 1867 lists the 19 passengers in one coach, their Oregon destinations and fares. A printed document from 1862 invites customers to complain about delays, accidents or infractions such as "drivers allowing females to ride on Box." The California-Oregon Stagecoach Co. operated until rail service replaced its routes, in 1887.
